"Katalin Varga", a Romania-UK-Hungary feature produced by Libra Film, will have its world premiere at the Berlinale, being selected in the 2009 competition section. The film is written and directed by Peter Strickland and executive producers are Tudor and Oana Giurgiu as well as Peter Strickland. The film is being distributed internationally by Memento Films. The story revolves around a handful of characters and has a strong timeless quality due to its themes and to the author’s approach. When Zsigmond learns that he’s not the father of his child, he decides to banish his wife, Katalin Varga. Left with no other choice, Katalin sets out on a journey to find the real father, taking her boy Orbán with her before he discovers the truth. They travel by horse and cart through the Carpathians where Katalin decides to reopen a sinister chapter from her past. Yet Katalin Varga, now having lost everything, seeks revenge.
