New Talent Grand Pix win for "Katalin Varga" in Copenhagen

"Katalin Varga" won CPH:PIX' main award NEW TALENT GRAND PIX at the 'CPH:PIX Award Show' in Copenhagen. The jury chose Peter Strickland as the winner of the NEW TALENT GRAND PIX competition because of 'the individuality of his approach, his visual sense, and the joined confident and consistent performances of his cast'. This year's competition jury, who handed out the first NEW TALENT GRAND PIX award, consists of Irish writer-director Aisling Walsh (Song For A Raggy Boy), Danish actress Iben Hjejle (Defiance) and British filmmaker Thomas Clay (Soi Cowboy). CPH:PIX is Denmark's biggest film festival. It is the result of the merger between the long running festivals, the 'NatFilm Festival' and the 'Copenhagen International Film Festival'. This year the new festival ran from April 16-26 2009 and screened almost 200 new, original, thought-provoking, funny and controversial films from all over the world. The festival lineup included 9 world premieres and 15 European premieres.
